Mark Manson began his career as a blogger. He adds his first-hand life experiences into his writings. It bridges his ideologies with those of readers. His self-help books such as The subtle art of not giving a fuck and Everything is fucked made him popular. These are  New York Times bestsellers and have solved over 13 million copies.

Key concepts of the book

Subtlety #1: “Not giving a fuck does not mean being indifferent; it means being comfortable with being different”.

When he uses the term comfortable he doesn’t mean being confident or admires about the indifference. There is nothing to feel bad about it and treat it as normal.

Subtlety #2: “To not give a fuck about adversity, you must first give a fuck about something more important than adversity”.

Manson makes it clear that adversities are inevitable. Anyway one has to care about problems. But Manson insists care about only the true and worthy problems.

Subtlety #3: “Whether you realize it or not, you are always choosing what to give a fuck about”

This is a continuation of the second subtlety. It is a kind of automated process that people over care about anything in life. He again directs towards the choices that are being unseen by the majority. It is more like Better problems better life!.

Analysis of the Book

The art being told by Mark Manson is a necessity of modern time. The unhealthy feelings and their way forward to relief are persuasive. As the title reflects it accounts for the existing society and the unconventional problems. It is said that when people are in a problem-free state, then the mind finds its way to fabricate or invent a new one. Thus attempting to live a life without problems shouldn’t be the aim. Instead, work better and earn quality problems.

It is the feedback loop in the mind that probably irritates an individual. It automatically reaches a negative conclusion. Be alert enough not to fall for it. The most appreciative element of the book is the concept of happiness. Shifting the source of happiness from the result to the procedure will be a game-changer. More precisely happiness shouldn’t be attached to a problem-free life.

Instead, happiness should evolve from solving problems. People have this temptation of treating their problems and sufferings as exceptional. Nobody is special and needs the rational ability to treat oneself as others.

The underlying values for perceiving life should have a basic standard. For example ‘honest expression’. Stop feeling sorry and pity or having a victim card. Manson explains a story of a person who became successful by taking responsibility. He encourages us to be in charge of life and live a responsible role.

The belief system and its better treatment are mentioned in the book. Thoughts are the place of all problems’ existence. If it is not taken with a better filtering analysis then there will be severe consequences. Accepting failure is a hard key but it can only help to get succeed. The art of saying ‘no’ is again hard but mandatory. The thoughts of death can help to find the purpose of life.
