1. The Villa – A Novel by Rachel Hawkins
Published 3rd January 2023
The Villa is a novel with mystery and dark secrets rooted in it along with the basis of a childhood friendship. The protagonist Emily Sheridan wants a relaxing space after a tough year and visits a gorgeous villa in Italy with her friend Chess Chandler. However, when she reaches the estate, she uncovers very dark secrets about a tragedy that happened there in the 1940s.
The story of the 1940s murder in the book seems to resemble a famous scene from 1814. Apparently, that’s where Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein character came into existence. Although the characters from the 1940s story are more intriguing than Emily and Chess and their silly drama.
Emily also discovers some things about the past while she is realizing Chess may not be the friend Emily thought she was. All in all the story is fascinating and a real page-turner, Hawkins has managed to write a novel inspired by Frankenstein that is both fresh and unique.
2. What have we done: A Novel by Alex Finlay
Expected release date – 7th march 2023
A stay-at-home mom with a past.
A has-been rock star with a habit.
A reality TV producer with a debt.
Three disparate lives.
One deadly secret.
Back in 1995, Jenna, Donnie, and Nico were best friends because of the trauma and neglect they had experienced as children living in Savior House, a group home for parentless teenagers. The three were divided up when the home was shut down following the disappearance of other children.
Each went on to lead successful—if troubled—lives, despite the fact that the trauma of their childhood has never left them. They haven’t seen one another since they were teenagers, but now they are back together for one eerie motive: someone is out to get them.
In order to survive, the group will have to relive their childhood nightmares and face their common past, which holds the key to who wants them dead.
None of them requested or wanted the reunion. However, it might be the only means of saving everyone’s lives.
What Have We Done is a heartbreaking coming-of-age narrative as well as an exciting thriller. And it solidifies Alex Finlay as one of the contemporary thriller genre’s new top voices.
