Blackpink’s agency, YG Entertainment, informed that the group made history by becoming the first K-Pop group to surpass 1.9 billion views on a music video on July 3. The music video was released four years ago on June 15, 2018, and immediately became a popular song. ‘Ddu-Du Ddu-Du’ is the title track of the group’s mini-album, Square Up.
With the catchy chorus and great choreography, the music video gained a lot of popularity ever since it came out. This isn’t the first time that the group made history, they have broken a lot more records but this is a special one. The song was the most viewed K-pop song in 2018. It hit the one-billion mark in November 2019, just a year after its release.
Earlier, the group broke the record for becoming the Most Followed Music Act in YouTube History with over 75 Million subscribers on the platform. Many media outlets such as Rolling Stone, and Billboard also called it the ‘Fastest in the entire history of YouTube’ to surpass this number.
