Post Match Analysis of KKR vs DC by Cricket Analyst Varad Vaichal – DC convincingly defeated KKR by 44 runs and made a strong comeback in the Tata IPL 2022. DC now has played 4 and won 2. Rishabh Pant-led DC would be buoyed as they not only defeated but handed a crushing loss to KKR as winning by 44 runs is a huge achievement where NRR can make the qualification race tricky.
The stand-out performer for DC was Kuldeep Yadav the chinaman who took 4 wickets and gave away 35 runs in his 4 overs spell. It looks like Kuldeep has found his mojo after sitting on the bench last season when he was with KKR. The foxy spinner was seen saying that the change in the franchise has given his career hope as of now he is in the race for the purple cap.
All in all, his 4 overs are proving to be game-changing as the batters are not able to pick the deliveries, and most importantly he has now developed a fear factor amongst the opponent team, there are “n” chances that he may be expensive and consider 50 odd runs but he has the knack of picking up 3-4 wickets which is invaluable as he has the ability to change the game.
DC with the bat
The openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner got DC to a flying start as the team scored 68 runs in the powerplay overs. Warner was back in form and made a statement that he can’t be kept silent.
Shaw the youngster scored 51 runs in 29 balls. At the end of the 13th over the score of DC was 148 and it looked like the team would be aiming around a 220+ score. Warner was dismissed for 61 runs and made the most of his start. There was a tragic collapse as DC was reduced to 166-5 for 16.4 overs.
The likes of Shardul and Axar had other ideas as they pummeled the ball and took the target to a mammoth 215-5 as both the batters deepened the agony by hammering the bowlers in the last 3 overs. Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers as he took 2 wickets and gave away 21 runs in his 4 overs spell. The likes of Chakravarthy and Cummins weren’t able to pick wickets and they got the beating so much that they conceded 95 runs amongst themselves.
All in all, KKR’s bowlers and Captain Shreyas Iyer were off-color as conceding 200+ runs is unacceptable at this marquee event.
KKR with the bat
KKR’s openers gave a forgettable start as they lost 2 wickets and scored 43 runs in the powerplay overs. Shreyas tried to put the run chase back on target but the required rate was getting out of reach.
Mustafizur Rahman was the silent assassin as he gave away 21 runs in his 4 over spell as he changed the complexion of the match. Other than Shreyas, none of the batters reached 35 runs mark as scoring was tough due to the sly Kuldeep Yadav.
All in all, KKR struggled to get quick runs on board which was the need of the hour as when you are chasing 200 odd runs; then the batters must show killer instincts else the team would be defeated without a ball being bowled.
