Gangubai Kathiawadi crossed the key Monday test and continued to shine at the box office on Tuesday. The Alia Bhatt-starrer made around 9-9.50 crore rs (approx, net) on Tuesday and surpassed the Rs 50 crore mark at the box office in five days. The film, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, benefited from the Shivratri holiday in some parts of the country and ended up outperforming Valimai in terms of single-day revenue.
The movie line is a young girl who is sold to Rashmibai’s brothel, where she is forced to work in the flesh trade. When the girl refuses to cooperate, Rashmibai is compelled to enlist the help of Gangubai Kathiawadi. Gangubai Kathiawadi, or Ganga, aspired to be an actress and eloped to Bombay with her partner Ramnik, who sold her to Shelia Masi’s brothel years ago.
Gangubai had no choice but to become a prostitute because she could not return home, but she won respect from her fellow women because she would be their main supporter in the fight against Sheila Masi. Gangubai bonds with Don Rahim Lala and establishes a fraternal relationship with him in the future. Gangubai is quickly becoming known as the mafia queen, and she is dedicated to improving the lives of the women in her town. She chooses to run for office, but she faces a formidable opponent in Raziabai.
Surprisingly, Gangubai’s box office haul is on par with Pawan Kalyan’s Bheemla Nayak, which debuted strongly in the South on Friday. While both Valimai and Bheemla Nayak had strong openings, their weekday business has been lower than expected. And it appears that Gangubai is winning the show at this point.
After five days at the box office, Gangubai Kathiwadi has grossed over Rs 55 crore. This is great, especially because it’s a film that’s entirely carried by a woman’s shoulders. In addition, the film is still playing at 50% capacity in Maharashtra, with numerous states canceling night shows.
On Tuesday, while the SLB-directed film earned around Rs 9-9.50 crore (approximately, net), Valimai only earned around Rs 4 crore (approximately, net), and Bheemla Nayak earned around 8.25 crore rs (approx, net). Gangubai is on track for a fantastic run at the box office, with a gross of Rs 100 crore not being out of the question. Gangubai Kathiawadi’s box office breakdown so far is Rs 10.50 crore on Friday; Saturday’s revenue was Rs 13.32 crore, Rs 15.30 crore on Sunday, Monday’s revenue was Rs 8.19 crore, Tuesday: 9-9.50 crore rupees and the total is 56-57 crore rupees (approx, net).
