The fans of the Ghostbusters franchise who were excited about the sequel for the Afterlife now have finally gathered their seats for the upcoming film in December 2023. Sony Pictures has finally announced the release of the Afterlife sequel of Ghostbusters. The premiere of the film will take place next year in December 2023.
They have also mentioned the schedule for the upcoming project after the grand success of the Ghostbusters Afterlife released back in 2021. Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan who have previously worked for Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be seen working together again on the sequel as producers.
The Sequel will include the era of classic 1984 with an entirely new plot. The film will be starring Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, and Sigourney Weaver. The hints for the sequel were probably given at the end of Afterlife released in 2021 that the settings would be in New York City and the iconic firehouse of the film. There were many other sequels to the first part of Ghostbusters which was released in 1984. That included Ghostbusters (II) released in 1989, Ghostbusters: Afterlife released in 2021, and now the upcoming sequel of Afterlife.
The fans of the franchise are excited by the latest news and are looking forward to some great experiences in the Ghostbusters fandom world. The film will be having a new entry in the family of the late Harold Ramis from the first movie who played Dr. Egon Spengler.
Ghostbusters Afterlife focused on the grandchildren of the original ghostbuster family, Egon Spengler. The action took place on a farm in Oklahoma away from New York City. However this time the film is likely to be set in New York. The Afterlife had Carrie Coon as Callie Spengler along with Finn Wolfhard as Trevor and Mckenna Grace who played Phoebe. The cast also had Paul Rudd as the science teacher and Gary Groberson as the seismologist.
With a blockbuster hit and commercially a successful one Ghostbusters Afterlife also was a critical hit. The film received approximately 9 reviews and the fans were immensely in love with the Ghostbusters all over again.
Afterlife also had a special reunion with Bill Murray, one of the original Ghostbusters. However, there were no talks about his return or was it planned well in advance. Back again to the classic era of the original ghostbuster movies of 1980 the makers are planning to give a nostalgic trip to the fans and audience down a memory lane to the setting of the original movies.
