After a rocky start, Buttler, Ali, and Overton powered England’s comeback.

After Hardik Pandya’s four-wicket haul helped knock England out well inside 50 overs in their last match at Old Trafford, India will chase 260 to win the game and the ODI series.

As England was bowled out for 259 in 45.5 overs, Hardik claimed an ODI career-high 4 for 24 from seven overs. Jos Buttler led the team in scoring with 60 runs despite taking two helmet hits from Hardik. With 3 for 60 in 9.5 overs, Yuzvendra Chahal cleaned out the back end of the order.

When India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, decided to bowl first on a “strong batting track” after his team had failed to successfully chase down a 247 mark and lost the second ODI by 100 runs, various commentators expressed surprise. But when Mohammed Siraj opened with a double-wicket maiden to left England reeling at 2-12 inside of two overs, the move appeared smart, as did the decision to substitute Jasprit Bumrah who was experiencing back spasms.

Future legend Rishabh pant With a brilliant hundred

Rishabh Pant will never forget his innings here at Old Trafford

Virat Kohli and the other Indian openers, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, were dismissed for just 17, which was a disastrous start to the chase. India was in trouble at 72/4 after Suryakumar Yadav was removed before Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya staged a spectacular recovery.

Before Pandya was out for a valiant 71, the pair amassed 133 runs for the fifth wicket. The game was then completely under control thanks to Pant, who also scored his first ODI century. In the 42nd over, he hammered David Willey for five consecutive fours before smashing a four off Joe Root, a part-time bowler, to score India’s winning runs with fewer than eight overs remaining. The southpaw scored 125 runs off of 113 pitches while remaining unchallenged.

India wraps up the ODI series against England by 2-1.
