Celebrating friendship day is equally special to us as celebrating any other. Friendship is the most special bond and is a relationship we choose for ourselves. Whether we are in kindergarten or we have retired, friends don’t leave our side. So to celebrate this very special bond, the world observes July 30 as International Friendship day. In India, it is celebrated on the first Sunday of August and this year it will be celebrated on August 7. But whether it’s today or a week later, our friends deserve that special treatment. Kids celebrate this day by exchanging colourful bands called friendship bands with their friends.
History of Friendship Day
The foundation of this day goes back to the 1930s when the founder of Hallmark Cards-Joyce Hall explored the significance of celebrating friendship on a particular day. But with time the excitement died down.
World Friendship Crusade, an international civil organization, proposed the idea in 1958, with the aim of fostering peaceful relations between various cultures. And on April 27, 2011, the United Nations General Assembly declared July 30th as the official international friendship day. The day aims at the promotion of happiness, peace, and unity.
