KKR vs MI: With a 52-run victory over Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders kept their IPL 2022 campaign alive. Set at 165, MI only achieved 113, their ninth loss of the season.
The night, though, belonged to Jasprit Bumrah, who took his first five-wicket haul in the IPL, only for his batsmen to let him down once more.
The performance that will never forget
Bumrah’s 4-1-10-5 stint went like this: When he leaked a boundary on the first ball of his session, he may have felt he was in for another disappointing night.
He did, however, put a stop to the KKR’s innings, allowing MI to keep them under control.
After bowling the fourth over, he returned to deliver the 15th over and dismissed Andre Russell and Nitish Rana, putting a hole in the innings.
KKR were 140 for 5 at the moment, with Pat Cummins, Rinku Singh, and Sunil Narine set to deliver.
Bumrah was magnificent, bowling four runs and two wickets in his second over, a triple-wicket maiden in his third, and only one in his final over. It’s a shame the hitters couldn’t reach the target. KKR made five changes to their lineup before returning to their first eleven depending on talent and ability.
Venkatesh Iyer scored 43 off 24 balls to help the team get off to a quick start after MI decided to bowl.
In the powerplay, KKR scored 64 runs, with Ajinkya Rahane adding only 10.
Despite Shreyas Iyer falling for six and Rahane getting 25 off 24, Nitish Rana blasted 43 off 26 to put KKR in a position to attack.
Rinku Singh made 23 out of 19 to help KKR surpass 160 points. Tilak Varma has six assists, whereas Rohit Sharma only has two.
Ramandeep Singh (12 off 16) and Tim David (13 off 9) both struggled to get going as the pressure rose. Ishan Kishan, meanwhile, kept attacking before falling for 51 off 43.
MI were reduced to 100 for 5 after Kishan was removed in the 15th over, and it fell to out-of-form Kieron Pollard to save the team.
After dismissing Kishan, Daniel Sams, and M Ashwin, Cummins finished with 4-0-22-3, with Russell taking two wickets.
In MI’s innings, Varun Chakravarthy returned to the side and dismissed David with three run-outs.Narine kept up his strong play, squeezing MI for 4-9-21-0.
