An irreparable loss for the entire nation. A voice that won millions of hearts is no more with us. India’s nightingale, the iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar died this morning on 06 February 2022 at the age of 92. Her demise has brought a shiver to every Indian. 

The queen of melody, Lata Mangeskar was fighting with Covid-19 for 28 days. She was tested positive for Covid-19 on January 8 2022 and was admitted to the intensive care unit in Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai. Her demise was due to multiple organ failures on Sunday morning at 8:12 A.M. The government has also announced two days of national mourning for the late iconic singer, Lata Mangeshkar. Also, According to government sources, the national flag will be flown at half-mast for two days as a gesture of respect.

A tribute to Lata Mangeshkar

Lata Mangeshkar was affectionately known as the ‘Nightingale of India.’ She began singing when she was 13 years old and recorded her first song in 1942. She has over 30,000 songs in many languages to her credit over the course of her seven-decade career. Late Lata Mangeshkar was India’s uncontested melody queen, she was a singer with moonlight in her throat. Loved by the entire nation, her songs will always be evergreen. She has a voice that pleased every ear, the entire country is deeply saddened by her demise as India lost another legend who will always be irreplaceable. 

Many individuals around the country have expressed their sorrow over Lata Mangeshkar’s passing via Twitter, Facebook, and other social media accounts. 

Prime minister of India, Narendra Modi stated, “I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata didi has left us. She has left an unfillable void in our country.”

About her life and works

Born in 1929, the eldest among 5  siblings, Lata Mangeshkar began her career at the age of 13 in 1942, singing songs in her native tongue Marathi. Over the course of her seven-decade career, she has sung over 30,000 songs in numerous Indian languages. From Madhubala to Kajol, she has provided her golden voice to generations of film heroines.

“Ajeeb dastan hai ye,” “Pyar kiya to darna kya,” “Neela asman so gaya,” and “Tere liye” are among her most popular songs.

In 1946, she recorded “Paa Lagoon Kar Jori” for Vasant Joglekar’s film “Aap Ki Seva Mein.”

With the song “Dil Mera Toda” in “Majboor,” composer Ghulam Haider handed Mangeshkar her first huge break two years later, and there was no going back for ‘Lata didi,’ as she is affectionately known. 

She has performed songs in over thirty-six regional Indian dialects and international languages and has recorded songs for over a thousand Bollywood films. Her main work, however, was in Hindi. Mangeshkar, regarded as one of India’s best singers, was awarded the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honor, in 2001. She also received numerous other honors, including the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, and Dada Saheb Phalke Award, as well as other National Film Awards. In 1974, Mangeshkar became the first Indian to perform in the Royal Albert Hall in London. 

The patriotic composition Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo, which was played on Republic Day in 1963 at the National Stadium in New Delhi to commemorate Indian soldiers who perished in the 1962 war with China, was one of Lata Mangeshkar’s most iconic songs. In the presence of President S Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Lata Mangeshkar performed it live.

The legendary playback singer’s demise on 06 February will always be remembered as a black day for the nation. Her mortal remains will be brought to Shivaji Park in the Dadar neighborhood for a final sight before her last rituals, which will take place at 6 p.m.

The entire nation mourns on this day for the most loved, Lata Mangeshkar. Although she breathed her last on this day but will always stay alive in the hearts of everyone.
