OMG 2 is the sequel to the satirical and hugely popular film OMG or Oh My God. Akshay Kumar is once again slipping into the spiritual protagonist, while Pankaj Tripathi wages a legal battle against him. Catch the film in theatres to find out!
What is OMG 2?
OMG 2 has been directed by Amit Rai and stars A-list actors such as Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, and Yami Gautam in meaty roles. It might come off as a spiritual quest, but it is mainly a legal drama, as the trailer proves. The sequel to OMG – Oh My God! (2012) is all set to take the theatres by storm on August 11.
OMG 2 vs Gadar 2 – Who will win?
After finally getting out of battles with the CBFC, OMG 2 has run into another controversy. The release date of OMG 2 clashes with the release of Gadar 2 – the sequel to the eponymous love story that shook the nation and brought out waves of patriotic fervor. It also started an almost cult-like following for the lead actor – Sunny Deol.
Is the trailer any good?
The trailer has come out strong, with fans giving out mixed opinions regarding the lead actors’ performances. Pankaj Tripathi has donned his simplistic charm and essays the role of the common man with undeniable enthusiasm. He is energetic, quirky, and out for justice. He is also the major emotional angle in the film, as his legal battle is against the flawed education system, to get justice for his son. Several people across the country have related to his legal struggle in the film and will be thronging to the theatres to watch this powerful performance.
Akshay Kumar is also a godsend – quite literally! He slips into the role of Shiva’s messenger very easily. This differs from his role in OMG – Oh My God! (2012) where he essayed the role of God Himself. Akshay was suave and charming in the previous film. In this film, he is strong in his speeches and sure in his beliefs, although he still has nonchalant humour hanging around him.
What role does Yami Gautam have?
Yami Gautam has a negligible presence in the trailer, with a couple of almost forgettable dialogues. However, we do hope that her role in the film is far better and that she has been able to showcase her talents as a performer. Yami Gautam is the opposition lawyer to Pankaj Tripathi in this film. It will be interesting to see how they face off and where the messenger of Lord Shiva (portrayed by Akshay Kumar) takes them.
CBFC Controversy?
A series of cuts (27 in number!) have been made in the film OMG 2 by the CBFC. They have also decreased the run time by 13 minutes, capping it at 2 hours 36 minutes. All frontal nudity scenes have been censored. CBFC has also ordered that the film not show Akshay Kumar (as the messenger of Lord Shiva) in a drunk condition. References to important mythological characters and episodes have also been dropped. Apparently, all this has been done after the severe backlash that the Prabhas-Saif-Kriti starrer Adipurush underwent recently.
