Diwali is incomplete without Bollywood’s big releases. This year, Akshay Kumar is all set to bag the title of a blockbuster hit with Ram Setu, an action-adventure film.
About Ram Setu
Starring Akshay Kumar, this action-adventure drama film has been directed by Abhishek Sharma while Chandraprakash Dwivedi is the creative producer. Written by Chandra Prakash Dwivedi and Abhishek Sharma and music by Daniel B George, this Bollywood flick has been co-produced by Cape of Good Films along with Amazon Prime Video, Abundantia Entertainment, and Lyca Productions.
Apart from Akshay Kumar, the film includes Jacqueline Fernandez and Nushrratt Bharuccha. Satyadev Kancharana, Shubham Jaykar, Nassar, and others are in the supporting roles.
The plot of the Movie
The story is about Aryan Kulshrestha (Akshay Kumar), an atheist archeologist who has been turned into a believer and is now investigating the facts about Ram Setu. According to the Hindu epic the Ramayana, Ram Setu was a man-made bridge, made up of stones that were constructed by the Vanar Sena of Lord Rama to reach Sri Lanka where Sita was abducted by Ravana.
The pillar of Indian heritage is about to be demolished as per the court’s orders. Aryan on the mission to find the truth about the Ram Setu, discovers more than he had vouched for. This led to a change of heart and a firm determination to prove the actual existence of the legendary Ram Setu. Will he be able to? Will the realms of India’s pious Heritage be saved from destruction? Or will Aryan lose his life?
Before the film review, a little background information about the movie. The demolition of Ram Setu is the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal project that aimed to create a shipping route between India and Sri Lanka.
However, the project was challenged in court, where the controversy escalated. Addressing all the debates, in March 2018, the Centre told the Supreme Court that the execution of the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal project was resolved so as not to harm the historical Ram Setu.
Aryan as Akshay’s dialogue that says history means “it thus happened”, precisely sums up the entire theme of the movie. The 144-minute film is basically about Aryan’s adventures that converted him; from a former atheist to a believer. Which appears to be a bit biased.
Ram Setu has action, adventure, and drama forming a perfectly entertaining film amidst the festivities. The film is entertaining but lacks the depth of the story. The plot has loopholes and off performances by the pedestrians. The second half of the film almost fell flat along with the VFX. More was anticipated from Akshay, given the legacy of his outstanding performances.
The adventure in the film is frankly entertaining. With the intense twists and turns, the film manages to keep the audience entertained.
According to the trade website Sacnilk, Ram Setu has accomplished bookings of around Rs 2 crore by the end of Monday. While being an Akshay starring film, the expectations haven’t been satisfied. Yet Ram Setu has a high chance to benefit from the Govardhan holiday and collect around INR 13-15 crore on its opening day.
