Bringing another iconic biopic, Taapsee Pannu is back with Shabaash Mithu. The trailer of the upcoming sports drama dropped on June 20, based on the life of the former captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket team, Mithali Raj. The movie stars Taapsee Pannnu as Mithali Raj, Vijay Raaz, Mumtaaz Sorcar and more.
The trailer, which spans 2 minutes and 45 seconds, starts with Taapsee Pannu talking about the struggles that a woman faces in a male-oriented sport. She talks about how people call it the ‘Men in Blue’ and never use the words ‘Women in Blue’.
The trailer further explores Mithali’s entry into the Indian Cricket Team and her struggles to fit in the team and also make an identity for herself as a Woman Cricketer. The struggles the team goes through are not only confined within the team but also in the association, which refuses to give them their own jersey with their names written on it, instead of providing them with men’s names written on the jersey.
The film centers around the patriarchal mindset of the people and the struggles that women have to face in order to excel and create an identity in sports. Filmed across domestic and international settings, the viewers get to experience the story from a much wider angle.
Mithali Raj, who recently retired from all the international cricket tournaments, was one of the six women to hit an unbeaten century at the age of sixteen. She has scored over ten thousand runs in the ODI and 88 fifty-plus scores which is the record-breaking number for any women cricketer. She is known for her record-breaking 23-year-old career.
The trailer received a lot of praise from fans and other cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly. Where Ganguly showed his support by sharing the trailer of the film, Tendulkar wrote a heartwarming tweet praising Mithali Raj for her determined passion and giving his best wishes to the entire team.
Directed by Srijit Mukherji, the movie has a screenplay by Priya Avem and a creative producer Ajit Andhare. The music is by Amit Trivedi, cinematography by Sirsha Ray, and edited by Sreekar Prasad.
Taapsee was last seen in Netflix’s Loop Lapeta also starring Tahir Raj Bhasin and had previously worked in many biopics like Soorma, Rashmi Rocket, Saand Ki Aankh, and Mission Mangal.
Some of her upcoming projects include Dunki where she’ll be seen opposite Shahrukh Khan and directed by Rajkumar Hirani. Other projects where Pannu will be seen are Ajay Bahl’s Blurr, Anurag Kashyap’s Do Baaraa, and Prakash Raj’s Tadka.
The movie will surely entertain cricket fans and present an important message. Shaabash Mithu will hit the big screens on July 15, 2022.
