The Witcher will soon be back on Netflix with the fourth season. The fourth season will be welcomed, with a significant change. Henry Cavill, for three seasons, has played the lead role of the great warrior Geralt of Rivia, but will not be seen in the fourth season. He has passed the torch with reverence to Liam Hemsworth.
Netflix on Saturday confirmed that Henry Cavill exited the fantasy series. The official Twitter account of The Witcher tweeted: it’s official: The Witcher is returning for Season 4, and Henry Cavill will be handing his swords to Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt of Rivia after Season 3. Welcome to the Witcher family, @LiamHemsworth!
While the third season of the series based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series hasn’t been released, the news of the fourth season is buzzing around. It is believed that Cavill’s return to the DC film fray as Superman, has caused such a change. The teaser of Cavill’s return as Superman was teased, with a mid-credits cameo in the recently released Black Adam.
The actor, alongside Millie Bobby Brown in Enola Holmes 2, will hit Netflix on 4th November.
The third season of the fantasy series will debut in the summer of 2023, while the four-episode prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin stars Sophia Brown, Michelle Yeoh, and Laurence O’Fuarain, and will launch on December 25 on Netflix.
Both actors took to social media to announce the changes.
Henry Cavill, in a statement, expressed, “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4.”
He continued, “In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”
The Hunger Games actor, Liam Hemsworth is exhilarated to step into Geralt’s muddy boots. In a statement, he said, “As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia.”
“Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world,” said Liam.
The sudden change did shock the fans. But, it also raised the interest to see how the renewed series will be. The Witcher season 3 is expected to release in the summer of 2023, while the four-episode prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin stars Sophia Brown, Michelle Yeoh, and Laurence O’Fuarain will be launching on 25th December on Netflix.
