Since Covid-19 hit the world the, showbiz business in India has been facing many bumps around the production stages to the release date. Many films, such as Laxmii, Gehraiyaan, Atrangi Re, and Sardar Udham opted for an OTT platform release, due to the uncertainties of the pandemic. The OTT platforms have paved a new way to enjoy big Bollywood films but as people try to move towards normalcy many big releases are opting to move away from the silver screens to the big screens. After a long successful trail of fantasy films in Hollywood, Bollywood is trying its hand at the same. Some of the most awaited epic fantasy films that will be appearing on big screens are:
1. Brahmastra
The film is set to be India’s entry towards its first superhero trilogy. Starting in 2018 with its production, the film continuously has faced many setbacks and the biggest of all being the Covid-19, long wait will finally come to an end this year. Releasing in September 2022 the film stars some of the industry’s biggest names, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, and Amitabh Bachan. The film is directed and written by Ayan Mukerji, who has previously worked with Ranbir Kapoor on other films like Wake Up Sid and Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. The fans are excited to see the real couple Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor’s first time sharing screen.
2. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

First announced on 19th February 2020, the Aatpat Production released a glimpse of the movie on the occasion of Shivaji Jayanti and which was supposed to release in 2021 but due to the current Covid-19 situation got delayed. The movie stars Ritesh Deshmukh as the lead and will be a three-part movie focusing on the different times of Chhatrapati Shivaji’s life. The film will start production soon.
3. Nagin
Shraddha Kapoor will be seen in a new avatar of a Nagin, the film is set to be directed by Vishal Furia. The film was announced by Saffron Broadcast & Media Ltd on Instagram on 15th October 2021. The film is set to be a trilogy, more announcements are yet to be made but after the popularity of Ekta Kapoor’s Naagin the tv series has added on the hype to film.
4. Adipurush

Based on the Hindu mythological epic Ramayan, Adipurush is set to release on 11th August 2022, the film stars the Telugu superstar Prabhas as the male lead, Kriti Sanon as the female lead, and Saif Ali Khan as the antagonist. With the alleged budget of whooping 500 crores, Adipurush might become the most expensive Bollywood movie.
5. The Immortal Ashwatthama

Amidst the rumors of being shelved, Ashwatthama is based on a character from Mahabharata, the film was first announced in the year 2020 but got delayed for almost 6 months due to the pandemic, the film is currently in the production stage. There is no confirmation on the status of the film but the fans are holding on to the hope of its release.
6. Shaktimaan
Wrapped in the late 90’s nostalgia, the Shaktimaan franchise is set to make a comeback on the big screens, not much information has been released about the movie. Shaktimaan was officially announced by Sony Pictures India on 10th February 2022. The first look gave a glimpse of the superhero’s costume and plot which is around an evil entity. There is no confirmation on who would be playing the lead but there are rumors that Ranveer Singh might just be the new desi superhero.
