The highly anticipated release of Captain America: Brave New World is just around the corner. Marking the fourth installment in the Captain America franchise, this film will officially introduce Sam Wilson (played by Anthony Mackie) as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s new Captain America. Directed by Julius Onah, the movie promises to feature familiar characters while also bringing fresh faces into the MCU, including Harrison Ford as the formidable Red Hulk. With the February 14 release date fast approaching, more details about the movie are coming to light, including its runtime.
According to a report from ComicBook, Brave New World will clock in at 118 minutes, making it the shortest film in the Captain America series. By comparison, Chris Evans’ debut in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) ran for 124 minutes, while its sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), was 136 minutes long. The third installment, Captain America: Civil War (2016), holds the record as the longest in the series at 147 minutes.
While the shorter runtime has sparked curiosity among fans, the movie has reportedly undergone significant reshoots and revisions. Although last-minute adjustments are common for Marvel Studios, this has led to speculation about the final product. Nevertheless, Brave New World remains one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year and will continue the MCU’s exciting trajectory following the buzz around Deadpool 3, which features Deadpool and Wolverine.
What to Expect From ‘Captain America: Brave New World’
The upcoming film will explore the dynamic between Sam Wilson’s Captain America and President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, portrayed by Harrison Ford. Ross, who has a history of advocating for strict governmental oversight of the Avengers (as seen with the Sokovia Accords), is expected to challenge Sam’s independent stance. Much like Steve Rogers before him, Sam rejects the idea of being controlled by the government.
In an interview with Collider, director Julius Onah expressed his excitement about exploring Sam’s evolution. “I’m really excited to see this man go from a counselor, as an ex-Army vet, to a Falcon, to Captain America, and bring that set of experiences and that point of view into the decision-making that one has to make, as this incredibly powerful character in the MCU,” he said.
A Star-Studded Cast and Compelling Performances
The movie is set to feature a stellar ensemble cast. Alongside Mackie and Ford, Danny Ramirez will return as Joaquin Torres, stepping up as the new Falcon. Carl Lumbly reprises his role as Isaiah Bradley, while Shira Haas joins as Ruth/Sabra. Liv Tyler will return to the MCU as Betty Ross, a character not seen since The Incredible Hulk. Other notable additions include Xosha Roquemore, Seth Rollins, and Rosa Salazar, whose roles remain under wraps.
