Bridgerton returns with its regency romance for a third season. Netflix has officially commenced filming for its upcoming period drama next season. The previous season created a huge stir as Jonathan Bailey’s Anthony and Simone Ashley’s Kate Sharma gave us a lovely tale to remember.
With its slow burn and enemies-to-lovers storyline, the show received immense love. However, the next season is about to dive deeper into the love story of Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan ) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).
Lady Whistledown’s Confirmation
It’s time for the Polin fans to get a visual treat. As the audience was teased in the past with Penelope and Colin’s romantic storyline the upcoming season is going to be all about the pair. Nicola Coughlan confirmed the news on her Instagram where she wrote, “ Like Lady Whistledown I’ve been keeping quite a long time … but I can finally tell you that @bridgertonnetflix Season Three is Colin and Penelope’s Story.”
But will the couple’s secrets keep them apart or will Penelope continue her double life as Lady Whisteldown? Well, the next season is about to answer all your questions. Coughlan revealed some more news to Tudum when asked about the upcoming season.
She said, “I feel like if you see Penelope fawning over this boy for another season, you’ll be like, Get it together! Come on, move on and get over it. The (Showrunner) Jess (Brownell) talked to Luke and me through the season, and I think people are going to be obsessed. I think book fans are going to be happy.”
Kate and Anthony

With the show not losing its love for Kate and Anthony from season 2, they will be seen together as well. With Rege-Jean-Page leaving after his breakout in season 1 Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey will continue to do their parts and explore themselves in the next season. Ashley has told Deadline that their characters were “going to be back! Kate and Anthony are just getting started.”
Bridgerton Season 3 vs The Original Novel

As we are excited about season 3 of Bridgerton, the best part of the surprise is that the makers of Bridgerton are going out of the original script for the very first time. Season 1 followed the story of Daphne and Simon, which was in line with Julia Quinn’s first novel The Duke and I.
Season 2 allowed us to glance over Anthony and Kate which followed the plot of the second book, The Viscount Who Loved Me. The fans had a theory that Season 3 would be based on contents from book #3 An Offer From a Gentleman, which followed Benedict’s journey to marriage.
However, the scriptwriters decided to skip that part and go for book #4, Romancing Mister Bridgerton. Season 3 will focus on Colin and Penelope’s love story. But audiences shouldn’t expect a direct adaptation from Romancing Mister Bridgerton as the key points were altered in seasons 1 and 2. We learned about Lady Whistledown in season 1 whereas the book fans didn’t know until book #4.
