New Delhi 30 June 2023: Several rules have been established by the university institutions in advance of the live telecast of centenary festivities at Delhi University. The rules stipulate a dress code that forbids the wearing of black clothing, requires staff and student presence, and suspends classes from 10 am to 12 pm.
On June 30, PM Narendra Modi will serve as the chief guest at the Delhi University (DU) centenary celebration’s closing ceremony. All staff and students at Hansraj College, Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, and Zakir Husain Delhi College are required to watch the live broadcast of the event.
Meenu Srivastava, the instructor in charge at Hindu College, outlined seven rules in a notice that was published on Wednesday. She also mentioned that students would receive five attendance points for watching the live stream.
“During the live streaming of the event, all students must be present. The entrance to the college should be completed by the start of the first period, which is between 8:50 and 9 am, in order to prevent any traffic backups or disruptions later on the DU campus, according to the rules.
“You must have your I-card with you. That day, no black dresses are permitted. They stated that attendance was required of all students and that they would receive five attendance credits for watching the live stream. Anju Srivastava, the principal of Hindu College, responded that no such notification had been given by the administration when asked about it.
There seems to be some misrepresentation going on. The college has not published this message. I don’t know,” she admitted to PTI. She didn’t dispute the notice’s falsity, though. “I have sent letters to all of the professors and students notifying them of the live broadcast and pleading with them to watch it. No one is required to attend, Srivastava continued.
Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College announced a notice; stated that “On this day, all teachers accompanying their students and other staff members must participate in the live web telecast programme in the college.”
The Zakir Hussain Delhi College issued an order stating that all staff members, excluding newly appointed teachers, who are physically present at the multipurpose hall, University of Delhi, are mandated to stay present in the college library to watch the valedictory function of the centenary celebrations.
The management of Delhi University (DU) also made it clear that attendance was not required, adding that a live broadcast was planned so that people who couldn’t attend the ceremony could still view it. According to Registrar Vikas Gupta, there is no order about mandatory attendance from the university.
While urging students, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff to attend the event, Ramjas College, Miranda House, and Kirorimal College also insisted that they had not made participation mandatory.
The Dyal Singh College announced, “Our college shall be telecasting the said event live and all students and teachers are therefore requested to be present in College on 30.06.2023.” Principals of Miranda House, Ramjas College, Kirorimal College, B. Nanda, Manoj Kumar Khanna, and Dinesh Khattar, all affirmed that attendance is not required for the prime minister’s event.
