To the delight of fans everywhere, today actor and acclaimed director Farhan Akhtar announced Don 3, a prequel to the original Don and its sequel, both of which starred Shah Rukh Khan, the King Khan of Bollywood. Fans of Akhtar’s Don franchise have gotten almost everything they wanted. Farhan has hinted at the release of Don 3 but confirmed that Shah Rukh Khan will not be returning to his iconic role as Don. After more than a decade, the director has finally announced the third installment in the franchise.
Don 3 Announcement Teaser
Farhan Akhtar announced the teaser trailer on social media. Although his post lacked a caption, the teaser spoke for itself. The screen’s focus was drawn to the centrally displayed number “3.” The figure’s design and typeface look suspiciously familiar. As if to ensure that no detail was overlooked, the score vaguely recalled the main theme from the film Don, “Main Hoon Don.”
The official handle of IMDb India commented on Farhan’s post,
“11 Mulkon Ki Police want to know the release date.”
Farhan’s sister, Zoya Akhtar, dropped comments too, and wrote,
What’s in Store? Perhaps A Revamp?
What also got the attention of the internet was the line, ‘A New Era Begins’. Fans of the devoted franchise started speculating that perhaps Shah Rukh Khan wouldn’t return as the coveted Don in this third installment.
Farhan, after a few hours, took to Twitter and posted a long note that confirmed a new actor would take Don’s legacy forward.
“Joining us in this new interpretation will be an actor whose talent and versatility I have long admired. We hope that you will show him the love you have so graciously and generously shown to Mr. Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.”
What Is The Title? Is It Don 3: The Chase Ends?
Recent rumors suggested that “Don 3: The Chase Ends” would be the movie’s official title. The third film is anticipated to follow the same formula, revolving around the criminal mastermind and his outlandish antics. In addition, its teaser will reportedly be previewed for the first time at this week’s screenings of Gadar 2 and Oh My God 2.
Is Ranveer Singh Going To Headline The New Movie?
Recent success in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani has fueled rumors that Ranveer Singh will take Shah Rukh Khan’s place as the title character in Don 3. Excel Entertainment, the production company run by Farhan and Ritesh Sidhwani, will be producing Don 3. Farhan, who last worked in that genre with Don 2, will return to write and direct the film. Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra starred in the lead roles of both Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011), the first two films in the gangster thriller franchise.
After hearing the news, fans’ reactions to the teaser trailer were divided. However, the announcement of “The New Era” also sparked an online debate. Seeing as how Shah Rukh Khan’s Don was an official remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s gangster film Don from 1978, many people urged others to give it another shot.
A user wrote in the comment section,
“Wow, such negative comments about Don 3 not featuring SRK. The Original Don was screened earlier this year at the Sydney Film Festival. I’m yet to see any version of the original Don (feat. Big B) that’s closer to it. Keep at the attempt, Farhan and team; you might get close to it this time.”
