The Emmy-winning series Euphoria gets the green light for another season. The show has received a lot of love from fans making it the most tweeted show of the decade. The story revolves around Rue and her group of friends and classmates. Following Rue’s perspective, the story explores a lot of graphic and extreme situations these teens are put in.
The second season of Euphoria aired on January 9 and concluded on February 27, 2022. With the success of this season, HBO and the cast announced the third season with a video on their official Instagram page.
RELEASE DATE
The release date for the show hasn’t been announced yet. But the fans are speculating maybe of a 2-year gap as the first two seasons had. Season 1 of Euphoria aired in 2019 and returned in 2022 after almost three years, due to the COVID-19 delays. As of now, the filming hasn’t started and there hasn’t been any news about the same.
CAST
The main characters like Zendaya as Rue, Hunter Schafer as Jules, Maude Apatow as Lexi, Sydney Sweeney as Cassie, Jacob Elordi as Nate, Alexa Demie as Maddy, and Angus Cloud as Fezco will all be returning in the third season. While there have been rumors about Zendaya’s return, the Chief Content Officer of HBO, Casey Bloys has confirmed her return.
Characters who joined the team in the second season like Dominic Fike who plays Elliot will also be seen in the next season. He himself confirmed his return on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.
The season-ending with Ashtray’s death during a police shootout might indicate Javon “Wanna” Watson’s exit from the show. But the character’s death is yet not confirmed.
CAST’S RECENT PROJECTS
The star cast has been busy with other projects and hence has not started shooting for the third season. Zendaya is completing the filming of Challengers and is expected to soon shoot the sequel for Dune.
As for Sydney, she is set to star in a Sony Marvel movie, Madame Web. Hunter Schafer was cast in The Ballad of Songbirds And Snakes, the prequel to The Hunger Games. The Kissing Booth actor, Jacob Elordi will be seen in Deep Waters and many other projects.
STORY
The story follows Rue, a teenager who has been diagnosed with possible bipolar disorder and panic attacks and struggles with grief after her father’s death. She gets addicted to drugs and is sent to the rehabilitation center. Season 1 starts with her returning back home from the rehab center and the story is told in the past and present simultaneously.
Jules, a transgender student who is new in town, falls on the bad side of Nate, the popular bully of the town. Nate blackmails her into falling in love with him. Meanwhile, Rue starts to develop feelings for Jules. Rue also undergoes relapses in the first season. Other characters also deal with their problems throughout the season.
The second season explores every character’s story but in the same style as the previous one, through Rue’s voiceover. Characters like Cassie, Maddy, and Lexi are seen as the main characters in this season. High school rivalry, complex family relationships, betrayals, and new friendships are all that constitute the two seasons of Euphoria.
The show presents a lot of content that might be triggering for viewers like drug abuse, sexual content, suicide, addiction, violence, and nudity.
