India has several reasons to celebrate on September 17. It’s PM Modi’s birthday today, which is a big deal for the country as it prepares to usher in a new era. An official flag-raising ceremony to mark Vishwakarma Puja is scheduled for this day at the New Parliament building, setting the stage for an unusual session of the Indian Parliament. This occasion is historically significant as the first official event to be held in the spectacular New Parliament building, which the Prime Minister opened on May 28.

The Central Public Works Department (CPWD), which was in charge of building this marvel of architecture, has started making arrangements for the “national flag-hoisting function”. One of the three ceremonial entrances to the structure, the Gaj Dwar, will have a public speaker system installed in front of it. A tender has been published for its hiring. As the Tricolour is raised for the first time at this event, it will be a significant moment in the structure’s history.

In anticipation of the upcoming extraordinary session scheduled from September 18 to 22, the New Parliament building is preparing to host its first parliamentary meeting. The initial meetings are expected to be held in the old Parliament building before shifting to the state-of-the-art new facility. This transition symbolizes India’s commitment to modernization while respecting its rich traditions.

Senior Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry members and CPWD officials recently visited the new structure to ensure that all arrangements are in place as the session approaches. Last-minute checks were conducted, focusing on audio levels in the Rajya Sabha and the multimedia equipment for Members of Parliament. A new control room is also being set up alongside the existing control room for the Integrated Building Management System. This will be vital in addressing any unforeseen technical issues that may arise during the parliamentary sessions, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted gathering.

Furthermore, speculation is that the cafes and kitchens within the new Parliament building might be operational during the session. This practical approach could enhance the overall experience for parliamentarians, offering them convenient dining options within the premises. It reflects a thoughtful consideration of the needs of those attending the sessions.

The ceremonial flag hoisting on the eve of the extraordinary session holds symbolic importance. It not only celebrates the birthday of the Prime Minister but also invokes the blessings of Vishwakarma, the deity of architecture and craftsmanship. The choice of this date underlines India’s commitment to blending tradition with progress, a theme that resonates in the design and construction of the New Parliament building itself.

In conclusion, the 17th of September will be a momentous day for India as it ushers in a new era with the ceremonial flag raising at the New Parliament building. This event represents a harmonious fusion of tradition and modernity, mirroring India’s aspirations as a nation. As the nation celebrates Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday and pays homage to Vishwakarma, it also begins a historic chapter in the country’s parliamentary history. The new facility’s state-of-the-art infrastructure promises a bright future for India’s legislative process, and the first-ever flag-hoisting ceremony will undoubtedly be etched in the annals of Indian history.
