Good Luck Jerry is a dark comedy that manages to impress the audience despite a few hiccups.

Good Luck Jerry is available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar. The movie is the official remake of the Tamil film, Kolamaavu Kokila, which was released in 2018. Janhvi Kapoor is back with a new challenge and this time it’s a dark comedy, and she does not disappoint.

Cast

The movie stars Janhvi Kapoor as Jaya/ Jerry in the main lead, along with Deepak Dobriyal, Sahil Mehta, Mita Vashisht, Neeraj Sood, Sushant Singh Jaswant Singh Dalal and Saurabh Sachdeva.

The film is directed by Siddharth Sengupta and is written by Pankaj Matta and Nelson Dilipkumar, who was the director of Kolamaavu Kokila. The producers of the film are Subaskaran Allirajah, Aanand L. Rai, and Mahaveer Jain.

Story

Good Luck Jerry is a story of a young innocent girl, Jaya Kumari a.k.a. Jerry who lives in a poor household with her sister, Cherry, and her widowed mother supporting them by selling momos. She works at a massage parlour to earn for the family, but her mother disapproves of her profession. When Jerry gets to know about her mother’s diagnosis, she decides to take the questionable profession, of a drug dealer. But as she begins dealing, she starts to get more and more involved in this drug cartel, resulting in a new problem for her and her family.

Movie Review

As a dark crime comedy, Good Luck Jerry does a pretty good job despite lacking a few elements which could have made this a great one. The story starts off a little slow due to the world-building but eventually makes up for it. With a decent amount of comedy and emotional scenes, this film does fail to present its emotional aspect, as the comic scenes are better done than the emotional ones, and the audience craves more comedy.

Despite being a remake, Siddharth Sengupta does not present the movie exactly in the same way as the Tamil version but tries to add his unique touch to the film. The presentation of the villains in the film is very unique, as the director experiments with the comic side of the villains and it does work. This also prevents the movie from becoming too violent or disturbing given its theme.

With decent soundtracks, Parag Chhabra gives some good songs to the movie, but unfortunately, they aren’t chartbuster variety.

Cast Performance

Janhvi Kapoor does a great job as Jerry. Her character as an innocent girl who easily falls bait to the dangerous world of drugs is portrayed perfectly. She brings the right amount of naiveness to the role. Some of her best performances in this movie would be when she is delivering the funniest of lines with a straight face.

Deepak Dobriyal as Rinku outshines every character in the film with his brilliant acting. He is already known for his excellent acting skill, but in this film, he outshines all other actors. He is definitely the life of the film.

Acting in a pivotal role like hers, Mita Vashisht presents an excellent performance as Jerry’s mother. The rest of the cast also do not disappoint with their performance and are just as pleasing to watch on screen.

Conclusion

Overall, Good Luck Jerry is a decent film with some really fun elements working alongside an important topic. All the actors do a brilliant job in their respective roles, but Janhvi Kapoor shines as the main lead.
