The highly-anticipated 2023 Hyundai Verna has finally made its way to the Indian market. As the sixth generation of the mid-size sedan, it is expected to uphold the strong legacy that this nameplate has established over the years. The car is set to compete with popular models such as the Honda City 2023, Skoda Slavia, VW Virtus, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, but it stands out with its unique design, powerful specifications, and numerous features.
Design-wise, the 2023 Verna has a strikingly radical look. It features a completely redesigned front, rear, and side, as well as brand-new alloy wheels. The coupe-like rear design is refreshing and eye-catching. One of the exterior features that stand out is the segment-first Horizon LED positioning lamps, which are accentuated by DRLs running across the face of the car. The shoulder line adds a sporty touch to the side, while the Parametric connected LED taillamps give the car a handsome look.
Inside the cabin, premiumness reigns supreme, and there’s plenty of space for passengers thanks to the increased wheelbase and width. Noteworthy features include front heated/ventilated seats, a segment-first switchable type infotainment and climate controller, a Bose premium sound 8 speaker system, a 10.25-inch HD audio video navigation system, and a digital cluster with coloured TFT MID.
The car boasts two engine options: a 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine (with 115PS of maximum power and 143.8Nm of peak torque) and a 1.5-litre Turbo GDi petrol engine (with 160PS of maximum power and 253Nm of peak torque). The transmission options include a 6-speed MT and IVT automatic with the MPi petrol engine, and a 6-speed MT and 7-speed DCT with the Turbo GDi petrol engine.
In terms of dimensions, the new Verna measures 4,535mm long, 1,765mm wide, and 1,475mm tall, with a segment-leading 2,670mm wheelbase. The car also boasts a 528-litre boot, making it quite spacious.
When it comes to safety, the new Verna doesn’t disappoint. It features 30 standard safety features, Hyundai SmartSense with 17 Level 2 ADAS features, and over 65 advanced safety features. Some of the ADAS features include forward collision warning, forward collision-avoidance assist, blind spot collision, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, driver attention warning, and safe exit warning.
As for pricing, the new Verna is expected to start at Rs 9.99 lakh and go up to Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom). There will be 14 variants available to choose from. Overall, the 2023 Hyundai Verna is a car that stands out in its segment, thanks to its unique design, numerous features, and powerful specifications. It’s definitely a car to consider if you’re in the market for a mid-size sedan.
