IB 71: A Thrilling Spy-Thriller Film Based on True Events

The Indo-Pak War of 1971 was a significant event in the history of India and Pakistan. Vidyut Jammwal’s IB 71 is a spy-thriller based on true events that occurred during the war. In this article, we will review the movie and analyze its strengths and weaknesses.

Overview of the Movie IB 71

IB 71 is a spy-thriller film that revolves around the character of Dev, played by Vidyut Jammwal, a flawless spy with a critical mission. The film is set during the Indo-Pak War of 1971, and it tells the story of how Dev and his team tried to thwart Pakistan’s plan to attack India in 10 days. The film also features Anupam Kher and Vishal Jethwa in pivotal roles.

Slow First Half and Cringe Dialogues

One of the significant faults in IB 71 is its slow first half, which has pacing issues and cringe-worthy dialogues. The spying scenes dragged on for too long, breaking the momentum of the movie. The dialogues lack depth and are often cringe-worthy, making it difficult to take the movie seriously. Even the action scenes fail to evoke the desired excitement, leaving the viewers underwhelmed.

A Thrilling Second Half

However, the movie picks up pace in the second half, which is packed with thrilling action sequences. The tension builds up as the team executes their risky plan, keeping the viewers hooked to their seats. The director has done an excellent job of keeping the action scenes taut and smooth, making them the highlight of the movie. The patriotic music at the end adds to the overall impact of the movie.

Vidyut Jammwal and Vishal Jethwa’s Performances

Vidyut Jammwal, who plays the lead role of Dev, has done a decent job of portraying a spy with minimal emotions. However, there are instances where he could have done better. Despite that, he manages to keep the viewers engaged with his performance. On the other hand, Vishal Jethwa, who has limited screen space, has delivered a stunning performance as the antagonist. He nails his role, showing a range of emotions with ease, making him the show-stealer of the movie.

Direction and Screenplay

Sankalp, the director of IB 71, who had earlier worked on The Ghazi Attack, has done an okayish job in directing the movie. His script could have been tighter and smoother, particularly in the first half. The pacing issues and draggy scenes could have been avoided with better direction and editing.

While the first half of the movie is sluggish and has pacing issues, the second half is thrilling and keeps the viewers engaged. The performances by the lead actors, Vidyut Jammwal and Vishal Jethwa, are commendable, making it a one-time watch. However, the direction and screenplay could have been better.
