WHERE DOES IT ORIGINATE FROM?
Louis Reard, a French automobile engineer, created a bikini after he took over his mother’s lingerie business. The reason he wanted to introduce this piece of clothing is said to be when he saw women on beaches rolling up their swimsuits in order to get tanned. The bikini was first introduced in the market on July 5, 1946. Reard ran his bikini shop for almost forty years. Michelle Bernardini was the first model to wear a bikini.
The name ‘Bikini’ was adopted from the Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean. The Bikini Atoll was the colonial name that the Germans gave.
