Jim Starlin, a renowned comic book author and illustrator, recently praised The Flash for doing something that Marvel Studios’ films don’t. In an Instagram post, Starlin praised The Flash for prominently featuring the comic book authors who served as the movie’s inspiration in its credits.
‘I was especially pleased to see the creators of the Flash acknowledged early in the end credits instead of way after the caterers and so many others. Wish the Marvel movies would do the same, ‘he wrote. Starlin also wrote his spoiler-free review of The Flash, which he labelled ‘terrific.’
Comic book creators are typically acknowledged towards the end of the credits, just before the “Special thanks” section, in MCU films. By that time many moviegoers have already left the theatre or are going through their phones to see whether there is still a post-credits scene to look forward to. The Flash modifies the rules for comic creator crediting by placing them in front of the line, honouring the material that screenwriters built their films on.
