Laal Singh Chaddha had already attracted a lot of buzz even before its trailer came out. The movie was a long time coming, over approximately 14 years were spent getting the rights to the movie.
Aamir Khan has confirmed this news in many interviews and on his podcast Laal Singh Chaddha Ki Kahaniyaan. The movie is a Hindi adaptation of the Oscar-winning Forrest Gump.
The trailer for the movie was released in a very unconventional way. By releasing it on the finale of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on 29 May, the makers played smart as it attracted a lot of buzz.
Laal Singh Chaddha Cast
The film consists of a very promising star cast including Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead roles, with Mona Singh, Naga Chaitanya, Manav Vij, and many others in pivotal roles.
The film is directed by Advait Chandan, making this his second directorial venture after the 2017 film Secret Superstar. Written by Atul Kulkarni in Hindi, this venture is produced by Aamir Khan himself under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions and Viacom 18.

Laal Singh Chaddha – Review
Adapting a beloved classic is quite tricky, but Laal Singh Chaddha manages to create a name for itself in the world of cinema. Where the original story is set around a time when Vietnam was at war, the Indian version manages to mold the story according to some of the most important historical events of India.
The die-hard fans of the original movie might be disappointed as it is a complete remake. But that shouldn’t stop the viewers from watching this film. This one brings a different world and some phenomenal performances by the actors.
The makers have been true to the original plotline. They have only replaced the trivial elements like the box of chocolates with a box of golgappas, and a bench in the garden with a seat on the train. The only thing that could have been changed was the sensibilities relating to several issues in our society that have and need to be changed drastically, considering the original film is a project that is three decades old.
The story is also molded according to Indian histories, such as the inclusion of the Blue Star Operation, 83’ World Cup Victory, the assassination of then prime minister, Indira Gandhi, 1984 Sikh Riots, the crowning of Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen, and the Kargil War. These key aspects create an interesting and engaging effect in the film.
Cast Performances
Aamir Khan as Laal Singh Chaddha is an asset to the movie. His performance is pure perfection. Playing the role of a man who is low on IQ is quite challenging, but Khan makes it look so simple. The major element of the story is the protagonist’s storytelling, Aamir makes it look so real as if he has personally lived through that time. He has given his hundred percent to this character, which is why the audience is left with no reason but to feel every emotion that the characters are feeling.
Kareena Kapoor Khan as Rupa D’Souza, the love interest of Laal, delivers a phenomenal performance. As Aamir said in a recent episode of Koffee With Karan, that no one in Bollywood could play the character of Rupa other than Kareena, it is true.
Conclusion
As an adaptation, it is nearly impossible to talk about Laal Singh Chaddha as a separate movie and not compare it to Forrest Gump. Even though many have enjoyed this heartwarming story, watching it again with a new set of actors does not disappoint. With an impacting storyline and great characterization, Laal Singh Chaddha is a must-watch.
