Oppenheimer Trailer
“We imagine a future and our imaginings horrify us.”
The first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s magnum opus Oppenheimer has just been released, and it opens with a stunning shot of an explosion followed by a tormented image of Cillian Murphy.
As the trailer progresses, it is shown that Murphy is supervising the nuclear weapons while being under immense strain. He then utters, “I don’t know if we can be trusted, with such a weapon, but we have no choice.”
The two-minute-long trailer ends with Murphy’s hands shaking as he almost presses the red button.
The trailer is filled with immense tension as a countdown ticks on. The shadows of an incoming catastrophe have been clearly shown. The trailer has induced anxiety as it further communicated the enormity of the invention that has just been created; a bomb capable of wiping out an entire country.

More about the film
Oppenheimer is a biopic based on American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a biography written by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin.
J. Robert Oppenheimer is a theoretical physicist who is known as the “father of the atomic bomb.” He was the leader of the Manhattan Project, a government research effort organized to create nuclear weapons between 1942 and 1946. The Manhattan Project was behind the first nuclear weapons ever produced in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
J. Robert Oppenheimer was also the director of the Los Alamos Laboratory, where the bombs were created.
As per the trailer, the film will document the physicist’s life and ethically questionable accolades, covering the origins of this project and the making of nuclear weapons.
Due to his visual and narrative style, Christopher Nolan has become one of the most acclaimed filmmakers of his generation. Nolan’s works have always stood out for his outstanding visuals. Interestingly Nolan avoids using CGI as much as possible. In Oppenheimer, the first nuclear weapon detonation was recreated without CGI effects.
After addressing many complex themes, Oppenheimer marks the first biopic in Nolan’s career.
Oppenheimer is Nolan’s first film since the 2000’s Memento, to not be released by Warner Bros., after his and the studio’s relationship ended after the release of Tenet.
Oppenheimer is all set to release on 21 July 2023.
