Queen Elizabeth II has died: UK’s Longest serving monarch has died at 96

Britain and the entire globe are mourning a huge loss, as the beloved queen is no more. She died peacefully at her Scottish estate, where she had spent most of the summer.

The Palace announced Queen’s death at Balmoral Castle, her residence in Scotland, where members of the Royal Family had rushed to her side after her health took a bad turn. Queen Elizabeth came to the throne in 1952 & witnessed 70 years of enormous social change. She is the only monarch most Britons have ever known & the end of her reign will birth a new uncertain era, it’s hard to address or even comprehend Britain without her majesty. 

Queen’s eldest son, the country’s new King, who will be known as King Charles III has released a statement and will address the nation on Friday. His second wife Camilla will be known as the Queen Consort. 

The Queen saw it all, her reign lasted from the industrial age to the internet age – 70 years of endurance & dedication in which she met generations of legendary global leaders and helped Britain cope with the loss of its empire and its emergence as a midsized multicultural nation. From a young queen to becoming the grandmother of the nation, decade after decade her majesty gracefully smiled, waved, shook hands & chatted with a vast number of her subjects & admirers. She worked tirelessly to keep the crown relevant in this changing world.

Queen Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, officially Elizabeth II, queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of her other realms and territories, Head of the Commonwealth, and Defender of the Faith, was born on April 21, 1926, in London, England. In 2015 she surpassed Victoria to become the longest-reigning monarch in British history. She became monarch at the age of 25 after the death of her father, King George VI in the early hours of February 6, 1952. She was crowned a year later on June 2, 1953, in Westminster Abbey, which was the first-ever coronation broadcasted on Television.

She became the queen of seven independent Commonwealth countries: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and Ceylon (known today as Sri Lanka), as well as the Head of the Commonwealth.

During the tour, in a broadcast to the British Commonwealth on her 21st birthday, she made the following pledge: “I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.”

Her first milestone came in 2002 when completed 50 years on the throne. This was followed by her Diamond and Sapphire Jubilee celebrations in 2012 and 2017.

Queen Elizabeth II surpassed the long reign of Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who reigned for 70 years and 126 days between 1927 and 2016, on June 13, 2022, to become the second-longest reigning monarch in the world’s history. She was also the first British monarch to address the US Congress on May 16, 1991. 

She is also responsible for changing the royal succession law of male primogenitor as she consented to pass the law of Succession to the Crown Act which ended the centuries-old practice of male-dominated monarchy. The queen gave us the best of both worlds as she gracefully blended modernity into her monarchy, she made sure that the royal family stayed updated & relevant to the times.  

The Queen lived with a crown of courage, a heart of golden devotion, and a soul of faith. She served with nobility & she dies un honor. England has lost its jewel of grace.
