Rocketry – The Nambi Effect was released in theatres on July 1, 2022.
It is a biopic based on the life of Nambi Narayanan. The movie’s main lead R. Madhavan is also the director of the movie and does a brilliant job at both. The movie was finally released in the theatres after so many delays. This multilingual film features two different cameos playing the same role in Hindi and Tamil versions.
Cast
The movie stars R. Madhavan, playing the role of the scientist Nambi Narayanan, who is also the producer, writer, and director of the film. Also seen in the movie are Simran Bagga, Ravi Raghavendra, Rajit Kapur, Bijou Thaangjam, and many more. Along with some international actors like Phyllis Logan, Vincent Riotta, and Ron Donachie.
Shah Rukh Khan and Suriya will also be seen playing cameo roles in the Hindi and Tamil versions respectively.
Produced by TriColour Films, Varghese Moolan Pictures, and 27th Investments.
Story
The biopic follows the story of the ISRO scientist, Nambi Narayanan who was framed in a spy scandal and got arrested in 1994. He then for years fought for justice and the accusations were later proved to be false in 1996. He was, then, awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2019.
Review
Debuting as a director, R. Madhavan did a great job as an actor but his directorial skills lacked a little. The actor revealed that the former director backed out from the project and he himself stepped up for the position. Being his debut as a director, R. Madhavan shows no signs to work as one in the near future.
The movie is not like all other biopics, it explores a lot of unexpected aspects of Narayanan’s life and Madhavan succeeds in portraying the story in a very honest way. The portrayal of the characters is done very well as the audience gets fully immersed in the life of the characters and is happy when they succeed and cry in their downfall.
With so many scientific terms it becomes difficult for a non-science enthusiast to grasp the meaning of the dialogues, but that is only till the interval. The first half of the movie is more concerned about Nambi’s journey into the world of science, whereas the second half explores his relationships and his personal life. The scientist’s personal story in the second half overpowers the actual conspiracy of the scandal. By the end of the movie, the real Nambi Narayan also makes an appearance.
Acting and Direction
Presenting a very unique take on patriotism, Madhavan manages to present the realistic love that a man has for his country.
As for R. Madhavan’s acting, he played the character of Nambi Narayanan in the most genuine way possible, the appearance, the personality, everything complimented his acting. Fans are even calling his acting, his best works to date. Simran, playing the character of Meena Narayanan, does a good job. Shah Rukh Khan is seen on the big screen after such a long time, and he brings back his charm with his immaculate acting, even in a cameo role.
Conclusion
Overall, Rocketry – The Nambi Effect is a great biopic with a great team of actors doing their best to portray the story of a genius. Madhavan’s directorial skills might need a little polishing but his great acting compensates for that. With a lot of emotions, the movie is definitely worth watching.
