After the 4-year gap, Ranbir Kapoor is going to be making a comeback on the big screen with Shamshera. The movie will be released on July 22. The film is expected to make a huge success at the box office. Let’s look at everything we know about the film.
Shamshera – The Period Drama
The story is set in 1871, during British rule in India, in the fictitious city of Kaza. An authoritarian general Shuddh Singh (Sanjay Dutt) imprisoned and enslaved a warrior tribe. The movie follows the story of a man who is imprisoned and follows his journey from a slave to a leader to a legend of the tribe. The man is Shamshera.
This film is different from the other period dramas set in this period as it shows a dacoit tribe fighting for their territory and the lives of their people from the English.
Cast, and Crew

The star-studded movie features an ensemble cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Vaani Kapoor, and Sanjay Dutt in the main lead roles. Also joining the team are Saurabh Shukla, Ashutosh Rana, Ronit Roy, Tridha Choudhary, and Pitobash Tripathy.
Ranbir Kapoor has completely changed his look to adapt to the role. As seen on the poster, Kapoor was seen with long hair, a long beard and a brown cloth draped around him. He will be playing a double role in Shamshera, one of Shamshera himself and one of Shamshera’s father, Billa.
Sanjay Dutt will be seen playing the villain and Vaani Kapoor as Sona, Ranbir’s love interest.
Shamshera is directed by Karan Malhotra and produced by Yash Raj Films.
Release Date
The film was first announced in 2018, with a release in December 2019, but because of COVID-19, the film was pushed to June 2021, only to be delayed again by the second wave of COVID-19. Finally, the film will be hitting the theatres on July 22, 2022.
The film will be released in the standard version, 3D version, and IMAX 3D version, and will be dubbed in Tamil and Telugu.
Making Of The Film
Shamshera is said to be one of the most expensive films to be released this year with a budget of 1.5 billion rupees. The film features some large-scale action sequences and sets which have never been seen before in Bollywood.
The set was reported to be custom-built of a gigantic fort that was constructed in 2 months with the help of over 300 people.
Vaani Kapoor is playing the role of a dancer and she had to take Kathak lessons to ace the role.
Ranbir’s Return To Big Screens With Shamshera
This film marks Ranbir Kapoor’s return after his 2018 film, Sanju, the biopic of Sanjay Dutt. And will also mark the first film where he’ll be playing the role of an action hero.
This year, Ranbir will also be seen in Brahmastra, starring Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, and Mouni Roy.
Day 1 Prediction
As the film is approaching its release, the bookings have opened and as Girish Johar, a film analyst, and producer, the ticket prices have not been hiked which he considers a good move to attract more walk-ins. He also predicts the opening day collection to be around 12 crores based on current trends.
