The Warrior which hit the big screens on 14th July has been regarded as a boring mass drama. The film is about Satya (Ram Pothineni) who is a doctor who comes to Kurnool city as an intern at a hospital. However, he finds something mysterious about the hospital and the secret is related to the injustice happening in the city. He decides to expose the truth and finds out about the scam that’s taking place in the hospital.
The issue reaches the ears of Guru (Aadi Pinisetty) who is terrorizing the city and turns out to be very angry and decides to kill Satya. He acts only as macho. Whereas Satya on the other hand acts cute in a doctor’s robe and massy in a cop’s uniform who uses his power and brings down the monster from his cave in the movie’s core plot.
Ram Pothineni is back on screen with a new outing after a long gap. He has been playing characters that are dual-shaded and cater to both classes and masses of society. When he plays the doctor the classy look outshines whereas when he takes over as the police the massy takes over. However, the shift from a doctor to a police officer in uniform takes time. But eventually, we accept the avatar of the cop because of his aggressive style that takes over the film.
Kirthi Shetty plays the character of Mahalakshmi who is a typical heroine of commercial cinema. Her part is just for bits of comedy and songs. The glamour through dance numbers is her only way to be seen in the film. Not a major character as such and has no relevance to the narration.
The film is directed by N Lingusamy, one of the senior Tamil directors. The film is a complete mass action entertainer offering complete drama. Lingusamy has picked up a thin story for The Warrior. It is all about the screenplay and the reaction of the audience to make the movie succeed.
He has directed many mass audiences but he probably failed here. To break the fight of good vs evil Lingusamy failed here by putting dance numbers and refurbished dialogues from every mass entertainment film. The film lacks originality. The director’s storytelling ideas and skills haven’t been reinvented and are still the same.
Overall the film is a complete mass drama and the film is not receiving a great response from the audience as well. The weak direction and spoiled screenplay did not work in the favor of the film. The mass cracker turned out to be a boring actioner.
