Twitter has dropped the blue bird logo and revealed a new one — “X”
The social media network’s site on Monday revealed the company’s new logo: a white X on a black background.
Welcoming “X”
Twitter owner Elon Musk and its Chief Executive Officer Linda Yaccarino unveiled the new logo for social media.“X is here! Let’s do this,” tweeted Yaccarino, who also posted a picture of the logo projected on the company’s offices in San Francisco.
The new logo is the latest change after reducing the character limit since Musk bought Twitter for $44B Musk revealed in a series of posts on his account that he’s looking to make the change worldwide as soon as Monday.
Musk tweeted: “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds”.Both Yaccarino’s and Musk’s Twitter handles feature the X logo.
On Monday, although the Twitter blue bird is still visible across the platform.“#GoodbyeTwitter” was trending on the platform with reference to the old logo as several users criticized the new one. Elon Musk stated on Sunday he wanted to change Twitter’s logo and polled his millions of followers on the platform on whether they would favor changing the site’s color scheme from blue to black.
“X” Everything Brand
Under Musk’s tenure, since he bought Twitter in October 2022, the company has changed its business name to X Corp, reflecting his vision to create a “super app” like China’s WeChat.Last October, he said that “buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app”.
Musk’s rocket company, Space Exploration Technologies Corp, is commonly known as SpaceX. And in 1999, Musk founded a startup called X.com, an online financial services company now know
Musk is set to take over the world by launching his everything “X” brand. Changing Twitter’s logo is part of branding. Many advertisers left the platform shortly after Musk took over the company, fearing damage to their brands in the early chaos. They have cut back on ad spending partly because of concerns about changes the new owner has made that have allowed for more hateful content to flourish.
Twitter: A New Beginning
A key rationale behind the appointment of Yaccarino, a well-respected advertising executive, was to woo back advertisers who have either paused spending on the platform or reined it in significantly. After the changes in Twitter, many users chose to leave Twitter and join The Thread app which is similar to the older Twitter. It gained 100 million sign-ups in the first five days.
Musk further stated that his reasoning for changing the symbol was “to embody the imperfections in us all that make us unique”. He also posted a photo of himself making an “X” symbol with crossed arms in front of a poster for the Tesla Model X car, with the caption: “Not sure what subtle clues gave it away, but I like the letter X.”
