Chandrayaan-3: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) confirmed that the spacecraft has successfully completed the fifth orbit-raising maneuver. The Trans Lunar Injection is now set to happen on August 1.
In Short
•Chandrayaan-3 continues on its journey
•It has successfully completed the fifth orbit-raising maneuver
•The spacecraft has successfully completed its orbit-raising maneuvers
Watch Chandrayaan 3 in space
As Chandrayaan-3 continues its journey, ground-based observations like the one from the ROTUZ telescope remain crucial in documenting these journeys.
Launched on July 14, 2023, Chandrayaan-3 is currently in a 1,27,609 km x 236 km orbit around Earth.
The spacecraft has successfully completed its orbit-raising maneuvers, moving towards positioning it for lunar insertion.
Significance Of Chandrayaan-3
The Chandrayaan-3 mission carries importance for ISRO and the global scientific community. It includes a payload named SHAPE (Spectro-polarimetry of HAbitable Planet Earth) to study Earth from lunar orbit. The mission also aims to demonstrate the rover’s loitering capabilities on the Moon, contributing to our understanding of the lunar soil and atmosphere.
Brief Description Of The SpaceCraft:
ISRO posted the following post on 25th July 2023, 2:45 pm explaining about the current position of Chandrayaan
Objective of Chandrayaan 3
The spacecraft aims to demonstrate a safe and soft landing on the lunar surface. It also includes showcasing the Rover’s mobility on the Moon. This is a great achievement for ISRO and towards global excellence. It also aims to perform in situ scientific operations.
Which part of the moon will Chandrayaan-3 land on:
Scientists state—The south pole of the Moon is still largely unexplored. They mentioned the surface area that remains in shadow there is much larger than that of the Moon’s north pole, which means there is a possibility of water in areas that are permanently shadowed.
Chandrayaan-1 was the first to discover water on the Moon in 2008, near the south pole. “We have more scientific interest in this spot because the equatorial region, which is safe for landing, has already been reached and a lot of data is available for that,” Mr Somanath said.
“If we want to make a significant scientific discovery, we have to go to a new area such as the south pole, but it has higher risks of landing. “Mr. Somanath adds data from the Chandrayaan-2 crash has been “collected and analyzed” and it has helped fix all the errors in the latest mission.
People’s Response To Chandrayaan-3:
The world is waiting with enthusiasm to see the successful landing of Chandrayaan 3. The expected landing could position India as the fourth nation to achieve a soft landing on the moon, following the US, the Soviet Union, and China.
The mission also serves as a stepping stone toward ISRO’s future interplanetary missions and potential collaborations with international space agencies which could create global excellence. Twitter users commented under the post of ISRO congratulating and applauding on successful steps.
One Twitter user commented “So happy to see 18 hours a day finally paid off”, while another commented, “Hard work never fails”.
