What Is Operation Vijay? How Did It Play a Major Role in the Kargil War?
The Indian Army launched “Operation Vijay” on May 3, 1999, following the first infiltration report from the locals. The objective of Operation Vijay was to retake Indian territory that Pakistani spies had invaded along the LoC (Line of Control). To support the armed forces, the Indian Air Force carried out an airstrike on May 26 as part of Operation “Safed Sagar.” They displayed extraordinary bravery and tactical expertise while facing some difficult challenges. To recapture the important summits, the gallant Indian soldiers fought valiantly and unceasingly while traveling through perilous slopes and battling foes.
Our nation was witness to some of the most remarkable acts of bravery and sacrifice during those high and intense conflicts. The late Captain Vikram Batra, who famously uttered “Yeh Dil Maange More” before offering his life in the battle, will always be remembered for his courage by the citizens of India.
